Valve flow coefficient

Release Date:

2026-06-18

1> Definition
Flow coefficient KV (m³/h): The flow rate, in m³/h, of water at 5°C to 40°C passing through the valve when the pressure drop across the valve is 1 bar; this value is denoted as KV.
Flow coefficient CV (gal/min): The flow rate, in gallons per minute, of water at 5°C to 38°C passing through the valve when the pressure drop across the valve is 1 psi (0.0689 bar); this value is denoted as the CV.
II> Calculation of the Flow Coefficient
CV(gal/min)=1.156×KV(m3/h)
KV(m3/h)=0.865×CV(gal/min)

G liquid: specific gravity of the liquid (water = 1) T(℃): fluid temperature
P_in (MPa): Absolute pressure at the inlet (gauge pressure + atmospheric pressure) P_out (MPa): Absolute pressure at the outlet (gauge pressure + atmospheric pressure)
Q gas (N m³/h): Gas flow rate under standard conditions (15°C, one standard atmosphere)
