Lock Nut Usage
UWM and FN lock nuts are used to secure ferrules, and are constructed from stainless steel 304 or 316L. To prevent galling, one of the following treatments should be applied before tightening the nut:
There are three options available:
1) Preferred Choice: Apply stainless steel specialty lubricant PASTE-L-2/3S to the thread (see the product page for ferrule‑preinstalled fittings and lubricants).
2) Use an anti-galling coating on the thread. To order nuts with anti-galling coating, attach “-A” to the end of the ordering number, e.g., UWM-L12-SS-A.
3) Plate the thread with silver. To order silver-plated nuts, attach “-S” to the end of the ordering number, e.g., UWM-L12-SL-S.
